The Best Sleep Ever: How to Make Your Bed Feel Like A 5-Star Hotel

Sourced from Refined Ambiance

There’s nothing like falling into a plush hotel bed. The luscious sheets, hefty comforters, and endless amounts of pillows make hotel beds so much better than our beds at home.

Since Covid-19 has cancelled a-lot of our travel plans, I thought it would be the perfect time to provide some tips on to make your bedroom feel like a hotel.

Tip 1: Stick to Mostly All-White Linen

Have you noticed the lack of color in most upscale hotels? White is the most commonly used color for hotel linens and bedding.

Tip 2: High Thread Count Is A Vibe

Silky yet crisp sheets is the vibe you are looking for when you slide into your bed. This is typically at the 300-thread-count mark. Its best to go with cotton (specifically Egyptian cotton), because they help you stay cool and they’re the most breathable.

Tip 3: Let that fitted sheet go

I know, I know this tip seems a little odd! But the next time you are staying in a hotel I encourage you to study the sheet set-up. More than likely you’ll notice something missing: the fitted sheet. Hotels use two flat sheets instead. The bottom flat sheet is normally oversized and tucked in tightly around the mattress using hospital corners; the top flat sheet is tucked in on the sides and the foot of the bed.

Tip 4: Cotton Duvet Cover + Comforter = Hotel Heaven

Its sometimes the easiest route to use a bed-in-a-bag when picking a comforter for your bed. It is by no means the wrong choice when purchasing your bedding. However, for that plushy, truly heavenly hotel vibe, it’s all about an extra fluffy down (or down alternative) comforter and cotton duvet cover. Added Tip: Search for an insert that’s 2 inches wider and longer than your duvet cover for an ultra-plush result.

Tip 5: Create The Perfect Mix of Pillows

Generally, unless you specify a feather allergy, you will be provided with two to four down pillows and two fiber-fill pillows. Added Tip: Euro shams are also common and optimal for propping yourself up while lounging in your bed.

Tip 6: Add a Feather Bed for Fluff

Yes, the mattress in your hotel room is a major part of the sleep experience, but if you’re not ready to purchase a (or even if you have a pretty epic mattress already), a feather bed/mattress pad is key when creating an authentic hotel bed experience.
