Holiday Appetizer: Christmas Tree Pull-Apart Bread

Christmas is almost here. Which means its time to start planning our menu for Christmas dinner. Is my family the only family in the world, who around 11:00 starts to ask when are we eating? I don’t know about you but it has begun to be rather annoying. So I have started thinking of creative items to have prepared so that I don’t have to endure the constant nagging regarding dinner time.

This heavenly Christmas tree pull apart cheese bread is an easy appetizer that everyone will love and takes just minutes to make. What I love about this meal is it can cater to anyone’s dietary restrictions. Vegetarian? Yep! Vegan? Using vegan options, you can definitely go for it. I’ve made this appetizer many times for my family and they all loved it. It especially goes over well at pot-luck’s and other get-togethers. I promise you, everyone will ask you for the recipe!

Ingredients

  • 1 can (13.8 oz) refrigerated pizza crust with whole grain or regular pizza crust.
  • 4 oz, or half brick, cream cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Italian blend shredded cheese.
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 3 tablespoons freshly chopped basil and rosemary
  • 1 cup warmed marinara sauce for dipping

Directions

Heat oven to 400°. Place pizza dough on a flat surface and stretch to a 10 x 15 inch size. Using a pizza cutter or knife, cut the dough into 36 equal squares. In a small bow, combine room temperature cream cheese and shredded cheese. Be sure to mix well.

Add one tablespoon of the cheese mixture to each dough square. Make a ball with the dough, sealing the edges. Place on a greased cookie sheet in a Christmas tree form as shown in the photos above. Bake for 15 – 17 minutes, or until golden brown.

After removing pull-apart from the oven, brush with butter and sprinkle with chopped herbs. Serve pull apart with marinara sauce

These are best made fresh and baked right away. They taste amazing warm, room temperature, and cold.
