I am happy to say that earlier this week I celebrated 100 days of being vegan!
Back in March, I embarked on a vegan journey. There was no secret behind it. I didn’t do it as part of a challenge. In fact, I honestly did it to see how my body would react. Over the past year I have dealt with weight gain, inflammation, psoriasis and a slew of other health related issues. One day while speaking with a good friend about my health issues, she asked ” Have you ever considered going vegan?” She went on to say It might help with some of my ailments.
I must admit, I had never entertained going vegan. The main reason was because your girl loves bacon, burgers, and steak in that order! However, I was fed up with not feeling well constantly. I figured what do I have to lose? So I did it! I went completely vegan and cold turkey! Specifically Keto Vegan. I bet you’re wondering what exactly is “Keto Vegan”. The vegan keto diet is a low-carb, high-fat, moderate-protein diet that excludes all animal-based foods. It was very important to me that I remain low carb. I didn’t want to incorporate foods like bread, rice, and pasta because my body does not respond well to them.
So here I am 100 days in and I am loving it. Much of what I learned in the first 30 days still applies. Check out my blog post no that here! I have found my share of vegan foods that I love. Likewise, I have found my share of vegan wines!
This post is dedicated to some of my favorite vegan wines.
White Wines
- Honey Moon Viognier-I truly love how light and airy this wine is. It is a full body and fruit-forward flavor with layered notes of white peach, nectarine, and guava. Only available at Trader Joe’s.
- Grifone Pinot Grigio -This is another light and airy wine. It’s not too sweet, nor dry. This wine made with organically grown Pinot Grigio grapes has a fragrant nose of ripe yellow apple and spiced pear. The palate is rich and fruity with a smooth mouth-feel balanced by refreshing acidity. Available at Trader Joes and for order in select locations from Drizzly
- Le Altane Pinot Grigio- If you’re on the east coast you can pick these up from your local Wegman’s! this wine features a wild flower bouquet with hints of honey. Soft, fresh, and lively with a lingering taste of ripe pears.
Red Wines
- Satis Dei Syrah Garnacha- If you can’t tell by now I have a thing for Trader Joes. This is a red blend that is sold at Trader Joes. It is simply delicious. Not too dry, not too sweet. Just perfect. It’s a Spanish Red Blend with notes of that tastes of extracted blackberry, softer blueberry, licorice, along with soft spice. The mid-palate brings orange zest, black pepper, and a late hit the black cherry.
- Organic Charles Shaw Red Blend. This is another trader joes find! It’s made with Organic Grapes is delectably jammy and fruit-forward-serves spectacularly well at barbecues, dinner parties, or even on its own as a way to wind down after work.
- Obvious Wines Nº01 DARK AND BOLD-The first release of the Obvious Wines Collection, the N°01 Dark & Bold is the most popular of the bunch. It’s a California take on the classic Bordeaux blend and the result is a fruit forward, medium body wine with a super smooth finish. This wine is sure to to please everyone. Can be purchased off Obvious Wines Website.
Rosé
- Cortes de Provence Rose by Olema-this rosé from Olema is crisp, dry and has the perfect balance of color, body, and bouquet. Can be purchased from Total Wine.
- The Palm by Whispering Angel-If the beautiful bottle doesn’t draw you in, then the taste will! The Palm has a fresh taste, followed by subtle, fruity notes. It is quite dry with a strong aroma of strawberries, raspberries, and other fruity aromas. Sold exclusively at Target.
- SHAW Rosé by Chareles Shaw- This is a nice and easy to drink, smooth with medium body with light acidity. Not too sweet, and refreshing! While it doesn’t stand up to the others on this list it’s just $4 bucks! Grab this next time you’re at Trader Joes! Grab this next time you’re at Trader Joes!
